Bariatric pre- & post-operative testing options include a Cardiopulmonary Metabolic Exercise Test (CMET), a resting echocardiogram, and a lower extremity venous doppler. Bariatric patients have an associated increased morbidity and mortality risk. These are people with diabetes, systemic hypertension, obstructive sleep apnea, dyspnea or shortness of breath, poor pulmonary reserve and coronary artery disease. In addition, cardiac dysfunction is common in obese individuals including cardiomegaly, systolic and diastolic dysfunction, and potentially fatal arrhythmias.
